A special Balboa weekend in Berlin with Jonathan Ng, hosted by Shieva and Giovanni.
Join us for two days of classes focused on connection, movement, musicality, and social dancing.
This balboa workshop is divided into two levels, allowing dancers to work in a focused and comfortable learning environment.
Whether you are a Newcomer discovering Balboa for the first time or an intermediate/advance dancer looking to deepen your dancing with more advanced material, we would love to dance with you.
Jonathan Ng is a Balboa, Lindy Hop, Collegiate Shag, and Solo Jazz dancer based in New York City. He strives to give students the tools to develop their own unique voice in the dance by sharing the values of conversation, musicality, and play in each class he teaches. With a background as a jazz violinist, Jonathan approaches swing dancing with the same core philosophy as he would playing on the bandstand: the best ideas are born out of a combination of great technique and the willingness to explore beyond it.
This track is designed for dancers who are new to Balboa, as well as dancers who would like to revisit and strengthen their foundations.
We will work on:
basic rhythms
posture and connection
pure Bal and Bal Swing fundamentals
social dancing comfort and confidence
No previous Balboa experience is required.
This track is intended for experienced Balboa dancers who feel comfortable with core Balboa vocabulary and social dancing at medium to fast tempos.
Classes will focus on:
movement quality and dynamics
musical interpretation
partner communication
creativity and flow in social dancing
Participants registering for this level should already feel comfortable with Balboa vocabulary
Pure Bal basics: Down hold, Up hold, some styling such as fanning
Bal Swing: come around, toss-outs, lollies, swivels, send out
June 27. - 28.
Saturday and Sunday
Newcomers — 11:00 – 13:00
Int./Adv. — 14:00 – 16:00
We encourage dancers to register as early as possible in order to secure a spot in the workshop.
As Balboa is a partner dance, registering with a partner is suggested (but not necessery). This helps us maintain a balanced learning environment and allows more dancers to be accepted directly into the workshop.
We will do our best to maintain a good balance between leaders and followers throughout the event. Depending on registrations, some participants may temporarily be placed on a waiting list until a suitable balance can be ensured.
Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us create a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone.
60 € for the full weekend workshop (4 hours of classes, 2 hours on Saturday and 2 hours on Sunday)
Payment in cash, please. We kindly ask you to bring the correct amount, to help us avoid spending class time on giving change.
